Woollen textiles and garments exports up by 12 per cent in 2005-06
New Delhi, June 14 (UNI) Export of Wool and Wool Blended Textiles and Readymade Garments including Knitwear registered a jump of 11.96 per cent at Rs 2,098.27 crore during 2005-06 compared to Rs 1,874.06 crore during 2004-05.
Encouraged by this growth, the Wool and Woollens Export Promotion Council (WWEPC) has set up an export target of 500 million US dollars for the year 2006-07.
To achieve this target, the Council has chalked out various promotional programmes, under which the Council will participate in a Magic Show Exhibition in Las Vegas (USA), send Study-cum-Sales Team to Commonwealth Independent States (CIS) countries, South Africa, Latin American countries and in Scandinavian countries with the hope to get substantial export orders.
A WWEPC release today said that the growth in export of Wool and Wool Blended Products had been made possible because of liberalisation and simplification of policies like Textile Upgradation Fund (TUF) Scheme by the Ministry of Textiles.
