Vet Varsity MoU with Michigan University
Chennai, June 14 : The Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS) here has entered into an agreement with Michigan State University (MSU) in the US for a period of five years for exchange of faculty, research scholars and students.
TANUVAS Vice-Chancellor told reporters here yesterday that the agreement envisaged joint research and meetings for education and research, technical assistance and collaboration and exchange of materials in education and research, publications and academic information.
He said the agreement would be reviewed periodically and extended from time to time. In addition, it was proposed to submit joint proposals for training grants in environmental and occupational health to the National Institutes of Health in the US, and global initiatives on veterinary education and research (GIVE) to the American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges.
Such collaborations would pave the way for securing international accreditation to TANUVAS and its constituent colleges, he added.
After signing the agreement, Dr Marie Anne Walker, Managing Director, International Centre, MSU, agreed to coordinate with Asian Development Bank and representatives of the corporate sector to consider funding programmes that would be jointly undertaken by MSU and TANUVAS. Dr Jeffrey M Reidinger, Dean International Studies and Programmes, MSU, had taken measures on Indo-US knowledge initiatives in which collaboration would figure predominantly, Dr Balaraman said.
Dr Balaraman said the Sparrow Health Centre, Lansing, had agreed to provide 30 computers with accessories to TANUVAS for the students .
To flag off the programme envisaged under the agreement, an international conference on 'Advanced Veterinary Practices in Medicine and Surgery-Augmenting Health and production' was being jointly organised by TANUVAS and MSU here from June 21 to 25, he said.
Over 200 delegates from different parts of the country including 20 senior faculty and six American students from MSU, apart from Dr A L Chodhary, President, Veterinary Council of India, were expected to attend the proposed international event, he added.
