Tourism resorts to be privatised in Mizoram

Aizawl, June 14 (UNI) In a bid to improve the tourism sector, initiatives are on to privatise highway, restaurants and resorts in the state.

Talking to UNI, Tourism Minister Z H Ropuia said ''we are making assessments to privatise highway restaurants and resorts as the first step. This initiative would not only increase the tourism revenue but also improve the quality of services to the tourists, who visits here regularly'' Mr Ropuia further said a few highway restaurants and resorts are to be dismantled as the buildings have deteriorated, while the Chaltlang tourist lodge would be upgraded to a 3-star hotel status.

During 2006-2007, government has also planned to construct new multi-tech tourist lodges at Zokhawthar (Indo-Myanmar border), Sakawrdai, Khamrang, Tlabung, Kanhmun and Saichoo, in the western belt of Mizoram, at the cost of Rs 6.67 crores, he said.

During the current year 29,893 domestic tourists and 230 foreign tourist have visited the state, the minister said adding the department is presently sponsoring many young trainees in food craft level and hotel management courses.
