MCOCA court remanded LeT operative to police custody
Mumbai, June 14: The Special MCOCA court today remanded a suspected Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) operative Afroz Khan to police custody till June 21 who had surrendered before court here last evening.
The ATS (Anti-Terrorist Squad) in its remand application prayed that accused Khan was allegedly involved in the conspiracy to transport explosives, for which ATS needs his coustodial interrogation.
MCOCA (Maharashtra Control for Organised Crime Act) Judge Mridula Bhatkar remanded Khan to police custody on June 21, as the custody of other 13 accused would expire on the same day.
Afroz had surrendered himself in the presence of his lawyer Shahid Azmi, yesterday.
Other suspected accused includes: Mohammad Amir Shakeel Ahmed, Zubair Sayyed Anwar, Muzaffar Tanvir, Abdul Azim Abdul Jamir Shaikh, Javed Majid, Afzal khan Nabir Khan, Riaz Ahmed Ramzan, Mohammad Sharif Ahmed, Bilal Razaq, Sayyed Zafruddin and Mushtaq Ahmed Isak.
The ATS seized 16 AK-47, 43 kg RDX, 4000 ammunition rounds and 50 hand grenades during the operation.
The ATS, in a joint operation with the Aurangabad police on May nine, had arrested three terrorists including an activist of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) from near the Ghrushneshwar temple at Verul village and seized arms and ammunition from them.
On the basis of the information received from the arrested militants, the ATS has also arrested ten more persons in three other operations and recovered arms and ammunition.
