HC asks State to file ATR in spurious medicine case of Pune

Mumbai, June 14 (UNI) The Bombay High Court today directed the State to file an action taken report (ATR) in a public interest litigation (PIL) filed against the sale of spurious medicines at chemist outlet.

While hearing a petition filed by Mr Lakhanpath Raj Mehta regarding the sale of spurious medicines which caused the death of his son, Justices R M Lodha and A S Bagga, directed the State to file its reply by July 12 besides asking it to give detailed report of the action taken in this regard since the last one year.

In his petition, Mehta stated that his two sons, Alpesh and Aman, had met with an accident on March 28, 2002 at Pune and were admitted to the KEM Hospital at Pune. At the hospital, on doctor's prescription, Mehta bought Imipenam injection from the KM chemist store situated in the hospital premises, which was given to his son Aman. He later died on April 6 that year.

Following the death of his son, a complaint was filed at the Samarth Police Station in Pune and court proceedings were initiated in Pune and Mumbai regarding the investigation into sale of spurious medicines.
