Govt announces Rs 10 lakh to family of jail clash victim
Thiruvananthapuram, June 14 (UNI) The Marxist-led Left Democratic Front(LDF) Government in Kerala today announced a financial assistance of Rs ten lakh to the family of a CPI(M) activist who was killed by a group of other inmates of the Kannur Central Prision.
Talking to newspersons here, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan said the cabinet decided to give the assistance to the family of K P Ravindran who was killed in April 2004.
Political rivalry among the inmates resulted in the killing. The CPI(M) leaders had alleged that the attack was result of a conspiracy hatched by the RSS workers with the connivance of the prison officials.
He said the cabinet also decided to enhance from Rs two lakh to Rs three lakh the financial assistance for the mother of a custodial death victim. Besides, the government would give Rs ten lakh to Prabhavati Amma, mother of the custodial death victim Udayakumar, to buy a house. She would also get a stamp duty exemption of Rs 1,48,000 for registering the property in her name.
