Shillong, Jun 14 (UNI) Mizoram, Tripura, Barak Valley of Assam and parts of Manipur today remained cut-off from the rest of the country by roads following a blockade of National Highway No 44 after landslides hit the highway at Sonapur in Meghalaya's Jaintia Hills, official sources said.

An unidentified person was also swept away by gushing waters from Lukha river near the landslide area.

Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police H Nongpluh told UNI over phone from Jowai, the district headquaurters of Jaintia Hills, that the landslides occurred last evening due to torrential rain.

He said the Border Roads Task Force had informed him that it would take two to three-days to clear the rubble.

Meanwhile, hundreds of trucks carrying essentials and passenger buses have been stranded along the highway.
