Fine imposed for overcharging tourists in Kashmir

Srinagar, June 14 (UNI) In an effort to boost tourism, the Jammu and Kashmir government has tightened its noose around those deceiving and overcharging the visitors in the Valley.

According to information available, the Enforcement Wing of the Tourism Department booked 35 offenders last month and realised a fine of Rs 20,150 besides retrieving and refunding about Rs 18,600 to the visitors.

The Directorate of Tourism, Kashmir, has said it has been active in enforcing the Jammu and Kashmir Tourist Trade Act to promote tourism in the Valley.

It said the traders violating the Tourist Trade Act would be held accountable strictly.

The Directorate has also published a list of select cases of fine and recoveries to impress upon the tourist traders to abide by the law.

The violators include several owners of houseboats, hotels, guest houses and restaurants besides art and handicraft dealers.

The drive would continue in future as well.
