Final decision on 2X250 MW coal based plants in Goa soon: Rane
Panaji, June 14 (UNI) The government would take ''appropriate decision'' on the Centre's proposal to set up 2X250 MW thermal power plant with imported low ash coal by ''weighing it against our environmental concerns,'' Goa chief minister Pratapsingh Rane said.
''Our government has adopted a policy to allow only pollution-free industries,'' he said while inaugurating a three-day workshop on 'Energy and Environment Practices: Global Strategic Planning' at Canacona in South Goa today.
Mr Rane said the state was running short of 60 MW during peak hours with the state getting Central allocation of only 350 MW from Korba, Ramagundam and Vindhyachal plants.
This called for more power allocation or generation of power within the State even as the State signed an memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the union power ministry for undertaking reforms in the sector including strengthening of distribution infrastructure and supply to different categories of consumers.
As many as 130 delegates were participating in the workshop organised under the aegis of the UNDP's Energy Group and Global Environment Facility.
