Lucknow, June 14 : Dubbing Samajwadi Party General Secretary Amar Singh as an 'item boy' of Indian politics, Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee today said the frequent 'obscene statements' of Mr Singh were testimony of the fact.

''Mr Singh, unnecessarily posing himself as the spokesman of cine star Amitabh Bachchan, has crossed all the limits of decency to gain cheap political popularity,'' UPCC spokesperson Akhilesh Pratap Singh said here in a statement.

Making a hue and cry over imaginary Income Tax department action on Mr Bachchan, the SP leader had forgotten that as many as 14 films of the film star were exempted from entertainment tax in Uttar Pradesh, he said. ''It is for sure that the large chunk of this amount (revenue loss) would have passed on to Bachchan family,'' he added.

Alleging that the SP President Mulayam Singh Yadav and Amar Singh had accumulated huge wealth by unfair means, Mr Akhilesh said they were known in the society for their properties, cars and affluent life style.

Mr Yadav was bound to lose his political grounds if he continued to use Amar Singh as 'item boy' and the next elections in the state would be an eye opener for the former, the Congress leader said.
