Bopanna bows out after gutsy fight against Federer in Germany
New Delhi, Jun 14 (UNI) Davis Cupper Rohan Bopanna threatened to snatch a set from world number one and defending champion Roger Federer but went down 6-7 (4-7), 2-6 after a gutsy fight in the first round of Gerry Weber Open tennis tournament at Halle, Germany, today.
Bopanna, who reached the main draw of the 680,250 euro event through qualifying round, held on to his serve and matched the top seed Swiss point by point in the first set only to lose in tie-breaker, according to information received here today.
But, Federer, who lost to Rafael Nadal in the French Open final on Sunday, proved too strong in the second set and gave the world number 267 Indian just two games in the set and wrapped up the match.
