Ankita, Isha Lakhani, Rushmi sail into Q-final of women's ITF tennis

New Delhi, June 14 (UNI) Top seed Ankita Bhambri of India outclassed compatriot Oormila Ram on her way to quarter finals even as qualifier Shalini Sahoo continued her fine run in the tournament defeating Wei Ping Lee of Singapore to book a place in the last eight of the ITF women's tennis tournament here today.

Ankita did not sweat much to get the better of Oormila 6-1, 6-0 while Sahoo, who upset fourth seeded Varsha Shivashankar in the first round, came back from behind to chalk out a 5-7, 6-2, 6-1 win against her Singaporean opponent.

In the quarter-finals, Sahoo will meet Chun Mei Ji of China who beat Archana Venkataramana of India 6-3, 6-1, while Ankita will take on fifth seeded compatriot Meghna Vakaria who down Jing Jing Lu of China 6-3, 6-1.

Meanwhile, second seed Isha Lakhani of India recovered from a disastrous first set to win her second round match against compatriot Tana Iyer 1-6, 6-3, 7-6. She will meet eight seed Indian Parul Goswami who beat compatriot Liza Pareira 2-6, 6-2, 6-3.

In another second round match, third seed Rushmi Chakravarthi had little difficulty to edge out Pichitra Thongdach of Indonesia 6-3, 6-3 to set up a quarter-final clash with Sandy Gumulya of Indonesia who beat Po Kuen Lam of Hong Kong 3-6, 6-1, 6-1.
