Anju slips one rung to seventh in world rankings
New Delhi, June 14 (UNI) Anju Bobby George's downslide in world rankings continued as the Indian ace slipped one rung down to number seven in the latest women's long jump listings.
Lacklustre form and injury since the start of the season had seen the Indian, ranked number four not so long ago, to slip down the ladder.
Anju could only manage a disappointing silver in the two Asian Grand Prix events in Bangalore and Pune after returning to the circuit after an injury which forced her out of the Bangkok leg.
She will now look to lift her sagging morale by putting up an improved performance in the Athletics World Cup in Greece in September and the Doha Asian Games in December.
Russians Tatyana Kotova, Oksana Udmurtova and Tatyana Lebedeva led the pack in the first three positions followed by American Tianna Madison, Australian Bronwyn Thompson and another American Grace Upshaw ahead of Anju.
In the men's discus throw, Vikas Gowda moved up two places to 23rd after his gold-winning effort in NCAA (US Collegiate) championships in Sacramento.
