Two Pak intruders, soldier among 8 killed, RDX seized in J

Srinagar, June 13 (UNI) Two heavily-armed Pakistani infiltrators and a soldier were among the eight people killed while the security forces seized arms and ammunition, including deadly RDX, in Jammu and Kashmir overnight, an official spokesman said today.

A defence ministry spokesman said troops guarding the Line of Control (LoC) noticed a group of militants sneaking in from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) this morning.

When challenged and asked to surrender, the militants opened fire. In the ensuing gunfight two infiltrators were killed.

Two AK rifles, two pistols, two wireless sets, two UBGLs with 19 grenades, 13 hand grenades and 40 detonators were seized from the slain militants, the spokesman said.

This was the first infiltration bid from Uri sector after the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road was reopened for Kashmiris living on both sides of the LoC.

On June 6, the security forces had gunned down nine militants immediately after they had crossed over into Machil sector.

Security forces today foiled a militant plan to carry out a fidayeen attack on an Army convoy when they killed two members of the Pakistan-based Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) suicide squad in south Kashmir while another militant was killed in north Kashmir.

Official sources said security forces conducted a search operation at Gousia colony at Pampore, about 12 km from here, on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway following a tip off that two LeT fidayeen were planning to attack the convoy.

They said when the security forces were sealing the area, militants attacked them with automatic weapons. The security forces returned the fire and in the fierce clash, two members of the LeT suicide squad, were killed. One soldier was also injured in the shootout.
