JK: 2 Lashker fidayeen among 3 militants killed
Srinagar, Jun 13: Security forces today foiled a militant plan to carry out a fidayeen attack on an Army convoy when they killed two members of the Pakistan-based Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) suicide squad in south Kashmir while another militant was killed in north Kashmir.
Official sources said security forces conducted a search operation at Gousia colony at Pampore, about 12 km from here, on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway following a tip off that two LeT fidayeen were planning to attack the convoy.
They said when the security forces were sealing the area, militants attacked them with automatic weapons. The security forces returned the fire and in the fierce clash, two LeT militants, members of the suicide squad, were killed. One soldier was also injured in the shootout.
Two AK rifles and other arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militants identified as Abu Qasim and Abu Saqib.
Security forces also gunned down another militant at Magam in the frontier district of Kupwara today. One AK rifle and other arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militant.
A police constable was injured when militants attacked a police party guarding the house of Mohammad Ramzan Yatoo at Zainapora Shopian in Pulwama district last night. Militants later took away one Self Loading Rifle (SLR) of the injured police constable.
