MP handloom, handicraft products to be exported to Japan

New Delhi, June 13 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh Government is exploring the possibility of exporting traditional handloom products and handicrafts, made in its two districts of Chhindwara and Seoni, to Japanese markets.

Stating this, Madhya Pradesh Minister for Industries Babu Lal Gaur told reporters here today that the officers of the Madhya Pradesh Laghu Udyog Nigam, together with the officers of the Japan External Trade Organisation and Japanese Embassy, have conducted joint tours of the two districts to assess their capacities.

At the initiative of the Union Commerce and Industries Ministry a senior designer of Japan, Kohi Takata, and his team had toured the two districts of Madhya Pradesh again, together with MP Udyog Nigam designer Sanjay Bhatnagar. Designs of 47 different products were prepared in accordance with the requirements of Japanese markets.

Based on those designs, as many as 700 products were prepared by the Mrignayani Emporium based in Delhi. These products are to be displayed in the MP Pavillion in the international fair to be held in Japan. The expenses of this pavillion would be borne by the Japan External Trade Organisation, Mr Gaur said.

He said he would be leading a delgation from Madhya Pradesh to Japan to attend a seminar to be held in Tokyo on June 15 and 16 by the World Economic Forum, which will be represented by Union Commerce and Industries Minister Kamal Nath. The 500 delegates in the seminar would be presented with bags made of tussure cloth made specially by the Madhya Pradesh Laghu Udyog Nigam.

The Industries Minister hoped that the exports of handicrafts and handloom products of Madhya Pradesh to Japan with the cooperation of the Japanese Government would reap long term benefits for the state.

Mr Gaur is leaving here today for Japan and will be returning on June 17.
