Govt plans to renovate historical forts, monuments in Karnal

Chandigarh, Jun 13 (UNI) The Haryana Government has envisaged a new scheme for the renovation, preservation and maintenance of the ancient monuments, pilgrimages and historical forts in Karnal district.

An official spokesman said under the scheme, Rs 20 lakh would be spent on the renovation work of historical pond, 'Karan Taal' at Karnal.

He said that the Karan Taal would be given a new look and its ancient glory would be revived and preserved. He added that a life size statue of King Karan would be installed in the middle of the Karan Taal.

He said that project would soon be planned for the renovation of Tarawari and Gharaunda forts, Parashar Pilgrimage of Behlolpur and Stupas of Assandh.

He further said that help of Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage would be sought for renovation of the ancient fort of Prithviraj Chauhan in Tarawari and Mughlai forts at Gharaunda.

He stated that the paintings engraved on walls in Parashar Pilgrimage of Behlolpur village would be duly maintained and taken care of. He added that the ancient Sanchi Stupas located at Sanchi in Madhya Pradesh were probably the biggest Stupas in the country.

He disclosed that professional agency would be hired for the maintenance of certified documents related to the ancient heritage.
