Govt appoints T R Rustagi to review service tax-related matters

New Delhi, June 13 (UNI) The Centre has decided to appoint Chief Commissioner of Central Excise (retd) T R Rustagi, to undertake an extensive review of all circulars, instructions and clarifications on matters relating to the levy and collection of service tax.

Mr Rustagi will review the matter keeping in view the changes in service tax law, Court pronouncements and all other relevant considerations.

Views, comments and suggestions from the trade and industry associations, departmental officers and from all others concerned will be solicited on the basis of circulars, instructions and clarifications which need to be withdrawn or modified.

Issues involved and the nature of clarification required to be issued on any specific issue relating to service tax, will also ascertain the suggestions.

Any significant problem or issue relating to service tax which is not covered by any of the existing circulars/instructions and clarifications, but which deserves to be considered by the Government for issue of clarification in the interest of uniformity of practice will also be kept in mind.
