Kochi, June 13 (UNI) A woman from Fiji has moved the Kerala High Court, seeking its intervention to get a DNA test done to find out her relatives in Kerala.

The petitioner, Barbara Bruva, had earlier approached the bio-technology laboratory at Thiruvananthapuram to conduct a DNA test on her 'relatives.

But the laboratory authorities expressed helplessness saying without a court order they cannot help her. While admitting the plea of Barbara Bruva, Mr Justice S Sirijagan issued notice to the bio-technology laboratory, Trivandrum and adjourned the petition for further consideration to next Friday.

The petitioner's father Joseph, a Keralite, had moved to Fiji and married a local woman Mariam. He died 60 years ago without leaving any details about his family roots back home in Kerala.

Petitioner Barbara found an immigration pass in her father's papers, issued on January 27, 1913, in which his address was stated as Kannathuparambu Joseph, son of Vareeth, Kaduvara, Kochi.

She then came to Kerala in search of her paternal relatives and the search led her to the Munnanad family, Kizhakepeedika. The petitioner suspected that the the two surviving members of the Munnanad family, Jose and Thresiakutty, were her father's brother's son and sister's daughter respectively.

Wanting to confirm the relationship, she has sought a DNA test to determine whether they are actually her first cousins.
