Agartala, June 13 (UNI) A dawn-to-dusk strike by the private transporters began in Tripura to protest hike in prices of petroleum products.

All kinds of private vehicles including three wheelers and buses went off the roads in this capital town and elsewhere in the state.

The government vehicles, however, were plying as usual.

Office goers and school children had to face a tough time due to strike.

The 12-hour strike call given by the CPI(M)' Tripura Motor Shramik Union and Tripura Auto Rickshaw workers Union to protest the recent hike in prices of petrol and diesel by the UPA government at the Centre.

Though the left parties including the CPI(M) had given alternative proposal to the UPA government not to hike prices it had not paid any heed to them.
