Curfew in Kupwara, 2 women among 3 injured in police action

Srinagar, June 13 (UNI) An indefinite curfew has been imposed in Kupwara town following massive demonstration in protest against the death of two persons allegedly due to firing by security forces.

The demonstrators were agitating against the alleged desecration of a mosque by the Army.

Residents told UNI over phone that repeated announcements were being made by the police through the public address system that shoot at sight orders have been issued by the district administraion.

Meanwhile, hundreds of people took to the streets at Trehgam, about 10 km from Kupwara demanding action against the security forces who opened fire on demonstrators there, resulting in the death of a 18-year-old Javid Ahmad.

A report from Baramulla said three people, including two women, were injured when police burst teargass shells and resorted to lathicharge to disperse demonstrators immediately after Javid was laid to rest.
