AMTS raises bus fares following diesel price hike
Ahmedabad, June 13 (UNI) Following the recent hike in diesel prices, the Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service today announced a rise in the minimum bus fares upto hundred per cent.
''The minimum passenger fares have been raised from a rupee to Rs two, while the popular Manpasand ticket, valid for a single day, has been increased to Rs 20 from Rs 15,'' said AMTS Chairman Asit Vora.
The AMTS runs 400 diesel buses.
The new fares will come into effect from Wednesday midnight, he told UNI.
He said that the hike was necesary in view of sharp increase in operational costs.
''Initially, we had Rs two as the minimum fares but we had lowered it in view of competition from CNG autorickshaws. But now, we are forced to revise it,'' he added.
