37 cases of cholera reported in Delhi in first week of June

New Delhi, June 13 (UNI) Delhi Health Minister Yoganand Shastri today said 37 cases of cholera were reported in the first week of June, taking the total number of cases to 443 this year in the capital.

Dr Shastri, who chaired a meeting on ''Water and Vector Borne Diseases'' this morning, said out of these, 133 cases were reported from unauthorised colonies, 79 from Urbanised Villages, 73 from JJ clusters and slums, 68 from regularised colonies, 8 from Re-settlement colonies, 58 from Other states, four from Railways, six cases from NDMC and 14 cases were untraced.

The Delhi Health Minister said in the current week, 16,812 blood slides were collected and 9,883 houses were sprayed.

In the capital, 1,80,852 houses were inspected for domestic breeding out of which 657 houses were found positive for breeding, whereas during anti-malaria operations 701 legal notices were issued and 157 cases were launched for prosecution.

Dr Shastri said as preventive measures during this week total number of 1,692 water samples were tested by MCD staff out of which 54 were found unfit and under Joint Water Testing with Delhi Jal Board, 1,057 samples were tested out of which 12 were found unfit.

He said during this week, 11,06,734 chlorine tablets and 5,520 ORS packets were distributed in the capital.

As a health education measure, 29,101 handbills, 1,04 posters and 3,535 stickers were distributed among the masses in Delhi.

Under Food Hygiene Raids (in the week up to June 9), total 85 raids were conducted in which 23,691 kg unwholesome food and 30,400 kg substandard ice was seized, he added.
