SP asks details of Rahul, Priyanka's edu abroad

Varanasi, Jun 12: After the Supreme Court ordered Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav and his family to give details of his income tax and property tax, the ruling Samajwadi Party (SP) has asked Congress President Sonia Gandhi to provide the information related to Rahul and Priyanka's education abroad.

Speaking to mediapersons here yesterday after attending a programme, State Public Works Minister and SP Secretary Shivpal Singh Yadav said the Supreme Court order asking Party Chief and his family for the required information is a result of the conspiracy against the Uttar Pradesh government.

He said the Court has the right to demand information from anyone but now his party would like to question the Congress President Sonia Gandhi about how the financial arrangement were made in the past for her son Rahul and daughter Priyanka's education abroad.

Mr Yadav said recently during the Raebareli elections Sonia Gandhi had shown her assets/property to be less. When she did not have enough money how did she educate her children in prestigious institutes abroad, he added.

Replying to a query, Mr Yadav, who is also the Energy Minister, said during the past two years of ruling SP government an additional 700 mega watt of electricity has been produced in the state.

However, during the former governments rule in the state the electricity production never crossed 2000 MW, while at present 2700 MW of electricity is produced everyday, Mr Yadav said.

Criticizing the former state governments for the electricity problems, Mr Yadav said they were responsible for the cancellation of Tanda and Unchahaar special power projects.
