SC permits minority institutions to conduct separate entrance tests
New Delhi, June 12 (UNI) The Supreme Court today granted permission to the association of Muslim minority technical education institutions in Maharashta to conduct their separate entrance tests.
The vacation bench comprising Mr Justice Arijit Pasayat and Mr Justice Altamas Kabir, while fixing the matter for further hearing next month, rejected the contention of the state of Maharashtra opposing the association's plea for conducting separate entrance tests for BA, B.Ed, BDS, Pharmacy and MCA courses.
Maharashtra contended it will create problems for the state adding the association is not authorised to conduct separate entrance test.
The petitioner however, contended that all the institutions who were members of the association are minority institutions and were therefore entitled to admit students on the basis of their own entrance test.
The apex court directed that 75 per cent seats shall be filled up by minority institutions while the remaining 25 per cent shall be filled up from the government quota for the current academic year 2006-07.
