Salini upsets Varsha, sails into Q-finals of ITF women's tennis
New Delhi, Jun 12 (UNI) India's Salini Sahoo upset compatriot fourth seeded Varsha Shivashankar while top seed Vivien Silfany Tony of Indonesia toyed with her opponent to sail into the quarter-finals of the ITF women's tennis tournament here today.
Sahoo outclassed Shivashankar 6-2, 6-0 while Tony had no difficulty to breeze past Charlotte Machin of Great Britain 6-2, 6-1 in the second round match of the 10,000 dollar event.
Meanwhile, second seed Lu Jing Jing of China got the walkover as Anushri Thammanna of India was not fit to play the match.
Other Indians, Venkatesha Poojashree, Sandni Gangothri, Vishika Chhetri, Duraisamy Arthi and Janaki Gunuganti also booked their places in the last eight.
While Poojashree brushed aside the challenge of Vimal Ragini 6-2, 6-1, Gangothri got the better of Esha Sanghvi 7-6, 6-1 and Chhetri blanked Chirashanthi Rajur 6-0, 6-0.
However, Arthi had to face a stiff challenge from Anupama Rajur to chalk out a come-from-behind 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 win while Gunaganti was also stretched to three sets by Sagarika Phadke for a 7-5, 2-6, 6-3 win.
