One killed, 29 injured in grenade blasts in Jammu

Jammu, Jun 12 (UNI) One person was killed and 29 others injured, early this morning in grenade attacks at the main bus stand here.

Police control room SSP Shaqeel Beig said three grenades were hurled from a bridge at around 0740 hrs in intervals by some unidentified militants on the buses parked in the bus stand.

One person, identified as Madan Lal, resident of Sundaran Tikri in Udhampur district, died on the spot while 29 others, including two women were injured. They have been admitted to the Government Medical college here, where the condition of the three was stated to be serious. Three of the injured were discharged after first-aid.

The blasts shattered the windowpanes of around seven buses and damaged a few other vehicles. No terror outfit has taken responsibility for the attack.

Senior officials of administration and police, on getting information rushed to the spot. Teams of sniffer dog and bomb disposal squad were also called in and pressed into service to sanitise the area which was immediately cordoned off after the incident.

Twelve suspects had been detained in this connection and were being interrogated by the police.

The situation was, however, normalised soon and buses were allowed to ply from the bus stand.

The explosions have taken place at a time when pilgrims from all parts of the country are pouring here for the Amarnath yatra.
