Nepali Maoist leader sentenced to 3-Years RI in fake passport case
Chennai, June 12 (UNI) A Judicial Magistrate Court today found Nepali Maoist leader Chandra Prakash Gajurel guilty and sentenced him to three-years rigorous imprisonment in the fake passport case of 2003.
Delivering the judgment, Alandur Judicial Magistrate A Paramaraj said the prosecution had proved the case beyond reasonable doubt that Gajurel had committed offences under provisions of Section 12 of the Passports Act, 1967.
After hearing both the sides, the Magistrate sentenced him to three-year RI and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000.
Mr Gajurel, also a polit Bureau member of Communist Party of Nepal, was arrested in Chennai airport on August 20, 2003, when he tried to travel to London from Chennai airport using a forged British passport. He was also detained under the National Security Act for one year on September 19 last year.
