Mortal remains of KD Sultanpuri consigned to flames

Solan, June 12 (UNI) The mortal remains of veteran Congress leader and six time MP from Shimla Lok Sabha constituency, K D Sultanpuri, were consigned to flames at Sultanpur village in this district today.

Earlier, his body was placed at the Sultanpur cremation ground to enable people to pay their last respects to the departed leader.

Hundreds of people, including state Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, HP Congress Committee (HPCC) President Viplov Thakur, Power Minister Vidya Stokes, Revenue Minister Sat Mahajan, Irrigation and Public Health Minister Kaul Singh Thakur, Forest Minister Ram Lal Thakur, beside several District Congress Committee leaders paid tributes to the departed soul.

Solan Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Kumar and Superintendent of Police Gyaneshwer Singh and several other government officials also attended his funeral.

Sultanpuri's eldest son Kamal lit the pyre.

Later, the Chief Minister and his ministerial colleagues met Satya Sultanpuri, wife of K D Sultanpuri and expressed sympathies with the bereaved family.

Mr Singh recalled his contribution in strengthening the party and in the uplift of weaker sections of the society, besides his role in effective implementation of the twenty-point programme in the state.

District Congress Secretary Arvind Gupta told mediapersons that an all-party meeting would be held on June 14 to pay homage to the departed leader.

Sultanpuri died of a massive cardiac arrest at Dharampur area of the district yesterday afternoon.
