Shillong, June 12 (UNI) Expressing concern over the prevailing situation in the Congress in Meghalaya, KSU president Samuel Jyrwa today said the student body was against dissolving the Assembly, as it will ''affect'' the ongoing developmental activities in the state.

Speaking to UNI, Mr Jyrwa said the student body would not interfere in the ''inner squabbles'' of the Congress, and added the Congress leaders should sort out their problem instead of dissolving the House.

''The idea of dissolving the House is not welcome,'' he said pointing out that it will benefit only those who had ''vested interest''.

Earlier, Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee president Onwardly Nongtdu told reporters here that the Congress might suggest the dissolution of the House following the instability created by the rebel Congress legislators who are demanding a change of leadership in the state.

At least 20 Congress MLAs, out of the 29 in a House of 60, had faxed to AICC president Sonia Gandhi on June 6 urging ger to change the leadership as they do not repose faith in Chief Minister D D Lapang.

The rebel Congress legislators also proposed the name of Meghalaya Parliamentary Affairs Minister J D Rymbai to replace Mr Lapang.
