Heavy squall, slight showers in some areas of East Delhi

New Delhi, June 12 (UNI) A heavy squall, accompanied with slight rainfall, were witnessed in some areas of East Delhi this evening, bringing tremendous relief from the searing hot conditions of the last week.

The heavy squall was witnessed in areas like Anand Vihar, Vasundhara and some areas of South East Delhi, brought about a sudden coolness in the air, bringing down the mercury by several degrees, the met office said.

The squall and rain were, however, till now limited to East Delhi areas and was likely to hit other areas in Delhi tonight or tomorrow morning, weathermen said.

Earlier in the day, a fresh phase of Westerly winds brought some relief from the ongoing heat wave in the capital, resulting in sharp drop in mercury to 41.3 Degree Celsius, from 43.6 Degree Celsius yesterday.

Thick clouds had been hovering over the Delhi skyline since morning.

For the first time in more than a week, it was somewhat pleasant outdoors, in sharp contrast to the scorching hot conditions all through the last week which kept most of the residents indoors.

The relief from the heat wave is likely to prevail in the coming days with the weather office predicting more dust-raising winds and thunderstorms accompanied with squall in the next 24 hours.

The weatherman have forecast a drop in maximum temperature to 40 Degree Celsius on Friday. They have even predicted light showers on Friday.
