Patna, Jun 12 (UNI) Four policemen and a civilian were injured in a clash at Uda Kishunganj in Bihar's Madhepura district today.

Inspector General of Police (Headquarters) Anil Kumar Sinha said the trouble began when some people protested on seeing that the strong room, at Uda Kishuganj jail where ballot boxes of panchayat elections were kept, was unlocked. The strong room was stuffed with the ballot boxes collected from booths under Bihariganj block. The seals of ballot boxes were, however, intact, Mr Sinha added.

He said the mob including some agents of the candidates indulged in unruly behaviour and pelted stones on the policemen on duty. Four policemen were injured in the pelting.

To retalaite the brick batting, police resorted to firing in which one person was injured. He was admitted to a local hospital and was out of danger.

Some vehicles were also damaged in the incident.

Meanwhile, Home Commissioner Afzal Ammanullah said that the district magistrate and police superintendent of Madhepura had been asked to file report on the incident. He said requests would be made to the state election commission for fresh polling under Bihariganj block area.
