First phase of elections over in district Lahaul and Spiti
Shimla, Jun 12 (UNI) The first phase of panchayat and Zila Parishad elections in Lahaul and Spiti district of Hiamchal Pradesh concluded peacefully with over 77 per cent voters exercising their franchise.
The elections to Lahaul, Keylong, Udaipur and Spiti divisions were delayed due to the climatic conditions prevailing there in November when panchayats elections were held in the rest of the state.
The elections in Lahaul division were held in 14 gram panchayats for 28 pradhans, seven zila parishad members and 15 BDC members, while in Spiti division, elections were held for one Zila Parishad seat only.
The second seat of this division goes to the polls during the second phase of polling to be held on June 14.
One Zila Parishad member from the Spiti division had already been elected unopposed earlier.
In Lahaul division, Keylong and Udaipur divisions reported about 65 per cent voting, while Spiti division recorded 89 per cent voting, official sources said.
