Encourage women to become sportspersons: Chaturvedi

Dharwad, June 12 (UNI) Expressing concern over not many women taking to sports in the country, Karnataka Governor T N Chaturvedi today said they need to be encouraged and provided proper training to take part in national and international events.

Inaugurating a sports complex at the Karnataka University premises here, he urged the Centre and state governments to take suitable steps in this regard.

Speaking on the occasion, Revenue Minister Jagadish Shettar informed that the cricket stadium, being constructed in Hubli by the Karnataka State Cricket Association, would be ready by next year.

The stadium was coming up on a 16-acre land provided by the government, he added.
