Eight killed, 17 injured in two road accidents

Chennai, Jun 12 (UNI) Eight people, were killed and 17 others injured in two separate accidents in Kancheepuram and Cuddalore districts of Tamil Nadu overnight.

According to police, four people were killed on the spot and a woman was seriously injured when the driver of the van in which they were travelling tried to overtake a lorry in Cuddalore last night.

The deceased belonging to Chidambaram , were returning home from Pondicherry when the accident occurred.

In another incident four people, including a 12 year-old girl were killed on the spot, and 16 others injured when a state transport bus in which they were travelling, dashed against a stationary truck at Sothupattu near Melmaruvathur in Kancheepuram distruct.

According to police the accident occurred when the bus was proceeding to Chennai from Pudukkottai. The injured were admitted to Chengalpattu government hospital.
