Cyprus says no progress on EU Turkey standoff
LUXEMBOURG, June 12 (Reuters) Cyprus demanded more concessions today as European Union foreign ministers arrived in Luxembourg for talks on Turkey's faltering EU membership talks.
Cypriot Foreign Minister George Iaocovou said EU president Austria had not gone far enough to meet Nicosia's demands that Turkey be reminded of its obligation to recognise and normalise relations with Cyprus before it takes even the first step in detailed accession negotiations.
''No progress has been made towards our views so therefore it is touch and go,'' Iacovou said ahead of a last-minute meeting with Austrian Foreign Minister Ursula Plassnik to seek a solution before all 25 EU foreign ministers convene.
Asked whether he would accept a compromise, he said: ''I will take a view as soon as I see what text is going.'' Reuters MA VP1343
