Army wives, KVIC tie up for generating rural employment

New Delhi, Jun 12 (UNI) Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) today signed an agreement with Khadi Village Industries Commission (KVIC) to help ex-servicemen, women and widows of servicemen to start ventures under the Rural Employment Generation Programme (REGP).

The products produced will be marketed jointly by AWWA and KVIC in Khadi Bhandars and AWWA outlets.

The collaboration will help generate about 1,50,000 jobs, an official release here said.

Under the MoU, signed by AWWA President Anupama Singh and KVIC Commissioner C Chandran, AWWA will set up rural industrial consultancy services centres to help ex-servicemen and the women in setting up ventures in rural areas in the vicinity of respective military stations.

AWWA will also help and guide them, especially women to implement the scheme in phases.

In the first phase, 10-12 pilot projects will be started. After experimental learning, the projects will be expanded to other stations.

Besides creating jobs, the scheme will also generate economic activity in the form of many subsidiary and ancillary units in the respective areas.
