AIADMK workers stage demo against petro price hike
Bangalore, June 12 (UNI) All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazagham (AIADMK) workers staged a demonstration in the city today condemning hike in oil prices.
Hundreds of AIADMK workers, led by former Tamil Nadu minister and party Organising Secretary Vijayalakshmi Palanisamy, later took out a protest march to the Raj Bhavan and submitted a memorandum to Karnataka Governor T N Chaturvedi.
The Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI) criticised the hike in bus fares effected by the Karnataka Road Transport Corporation.
In a statement here, SUCI State Secretary B R Manjunath pointed out that the Corporation had increased the fares by 10-12 per cent and not just eight per cent as it claimed, while the increase in the diesel price was only 4.48 per cent.
Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) announced that it would launch a three-day statewide protest from tomorrow in protest against the increase in fuel prices.
BMS State President A Venkataram, in a release here, said the organisation would resort to rasta roko to register its protest.
''The UPA government hikes the petro prices every time the international crude rates go up by a few dollars. This is neither scientific not justifiable. The state government makes things even more difficult for the people by slapping additional sales tax and cess,'' he added.
