A report from Tiruchirapalli said more than 1000 volunteers of

the Democratic Peoples Alliance (DPA), led by the opposition AIADMK staged a slogan-shouting demonstration in front of Tiruchirapalli Head post Office to condemn the hike.

State MGR Youth Wing Secretary P Rajarathinam led the agitators, including a few women of the DPA partners- the MDMK, Dalit Panthers of India (DPI), Moovendar Munnetra Kazhagam (MMK), Indian National League (INL), Janata Dal (Secular), IUML (Tamil Nadu) and a few trade unions raised anti-Congress and anti-Karunanidhi slogans.

Terming the oil price hike as an ''anti-people act'', the agitators urged the UPA Government to withdraw the price hike immediately.
