Youth's self-immolation bid at cinema hall showing Aamir's 'Fanna'

Jamnagar, Jun 11 (UNI) A 20-year-old youth today allegedly tried to immolate himself in a local cinema hall during a regular show of Aamir Khan's 'Fanna' in protest against the film star's statements on the Narmada issue.

Police said that Pravin Gopal Joshi, who hails from the port town of Porbandar, about 200 km from here, tried to immolate himself by pouring five litres of petrol on his body in the toilet of the balcony of Ambar Cinema Hall.

The youth has been admitted to Guru Govind Singh Civil Hospital here with 90 per cent burn injuries. The doctors attending on Pravin stated that his condition is very critical.

Police have registered a case and further investigations are on.

Jamnagar is the only city in Gujarat, which is showing 'Fanna' at Ambar Cinema Hall.

Even as the Supreme Court has directed the Gujarat Government to provide adequate security to cinema halls showing the picture, no other theatre is willing to take the risk, looking at the intense popular sentiment against Aamir Khan.

Aamir Khan had expressed support for Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) leader Medha Patkar during her hunger strike in Delhi last month.
