Heat wavw to send Germany's temp soaring

HAMBURG, June 11 (Reuters) A heat wave that will send temperatures in Germany up to 35 degrees on Tuesday should be interrupted briefly by three days of cooler and rainy conditions, a top meteorologist said.

The news will suit England who said they particularly suffered in the heat for their opening Group B victory over Paraguay on yesterday.

Joerg Kachelmann, Germany's leading forecaster, told Reuters a high pressure system responsible for temperatures hitting 29 degrees Celsius in Frankfurt, where England played, would at first make conditions across Germany even more uncomfortable.

But after peaking at 35 degrees in some areas on Tuesday they should begin falling on Wednesday with clouds and cooler air moving in from the northwest before they drop further to around 19 or 20 degrees the following day.

''Thursday in Nuremberg is a very good day for England to play,'' said Kachelmann, a meteorologist for Germany's lead ARD network, noting temperatures would, however, probably be a ''bit on the chilly side'' for Caribbean opponents Trinidad&Tobago.

''There will be showers and maybe thunderstorms during the day and the grass should be soft and damp. Thursday will be the first cool day of the week.

''The 'English gap' will last from Thursday and Sunday. After that, warmer air will come back.'' Reuters PDS RS2107
