Sajjad Lone, Nayeem Khan arrested in Kashmir's Kupwara area
Srinagar, June 11 (UNI) Senior separatist leaders Sajjad Ghani Lone and Nayeem Ahmed Khan were arrested today in north Kashmir's Kupwara district when they tried to take out a march in protest against the alleged desecration of a mosque and killing of a youth reportedly in firing by the security forces.
Mr Lone, who is the People's Conference Chairman, was arrested in Kupwara shortly before he was to take out a protest rally there.
Mr Khan, who is the National Front Chief, was also detained by the authorities in the frontier district.
One person was killed and 25 others, including 14 police and security personnel, wounded when thousands of protestors attacked a security force camp at Trehgam, about 100 km from here, yesterday.
The protestors took to the streets to protest against the sacrilege of a mosque allegedly by troops of 7 Dogra Regiment in Zirhama, about 10 km from Kupwara, on Friday evening.
The demonstrators alleged that the troops entered the mosque without removing their shoes, beat up the priest and showed disrespect to the holy books, a charge denied by the Army.
