Rains in eastern UP, Northeast, hot weather in Delhi

New Delhi, June 11 (UNI) Eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh received welcome showers in the past one week signalling the arrival of the monsoon.

Air mass preceding monsoon has entered Uttar Pradesh and if all goes well, the state would witness monsoon showers in the next few days, the Met department said.

Monsoon had already covered half of Bihar till last Wednesday evening.

The normal date of arrival of monsoon in UP is June 15 and June 18 in the state capital. It covers entire UP by June 26.

Meanwhile, southwest monsoon has been active in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.

However, heat wave conditions prevailed in northwest Rajasthan and in some parts of Haryana.

In the regions where the southwest monsoon is yet to set in, day temperatures were markedly above normal in Himachal Pradesh and they were appreciably above normal in Uttaranchal, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, east Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and in remaining parts of Haryana and were above normal in some parts of east Rajasthan, west Madhya Pradesh and north Chattisgarh.

Very light rain have occured at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and Lakshadweep.

Rain or thundershowers have occured at many places in coastal Karnataka and Andman and Nicobar Islands and at few places in Arunachal Pradesh, Konkan and Goa, Telangana and at isolated places in east Madhya Pradesh and south interior Karnataka.

Searing hot conditions continued to prevail in the national capital for the second day today as the mercury rose to 43.6 degrees Celsius, the highest in more than a month.

It was scorchingly hot outdoors as the maximum temperature recorded was four degrees above normal, and indicative of a return to the heat wave in the capital after pleasant weather last weekend.

The high level of mercury, coupled with humidity level of 35 per cent, kept most of the residents indoors.

Weathermen say scorching hot conditions are likely to prevail in the coming days.

The weather office has forecast a mainly clear sky with dust or haze during the next 24 hours. They have also forecast a rise in maximum temperature of 44 degrees C tomorrow.

Bengal also witnessed hot weather conditions for the second day as the mercury rose to 37.8 degrees Celsius with increasing humidity.

Even as monsoon have arrived in Bengal a week before its schedule, there was no sign of rains, MET office said.

While mercury rose to 37.8 degrees C, the minimum temperature was 27.9 degrees C with 49 per cent humidity, it added.
