Nepal Parliament to be adjourned from tomorrow
Kathmandu, June 11 (UNI) The Seven-Party Alliance government in Nepal will tomorrow adjourn the ongoing session of the reinstated Parliament for a few weeks to speed up the peace process with the Maoists.
A meeting of the SPA, held at Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala's residence at Baluwatar this morning, decided to adjourn the session for the time being as there are no important issues to be discussed in Parliament.
However, it is said the session will begin when the government presents the budget in July.
The House has cut down the powers of the King and made the 205-member House powerful following the reinstatement of the Parliament in April in the wake of the popular movement where tens of thousands of people came to the streets, demanding the end of the monarchy.
The Maoists have been demanding dissolution of the House and expedition of up the peace process besides formation of an interim government to oversee the election of the Constituent Assembly to write a new constitution.
However, the SPA have ruled out the possibility of the dissolution of the House without an alternative arrangement.
''The House has been adjourned to speed up the government-Maoist talks,'' it said adding the decision was taken to speed up the peace process between the government and Maoists.
Initial round of talks were held between the government and aoists three weeks ago and agreed on a 25-point code of conduct.
Insurgency has claimed more than 13,000 lives here since 1996.
