Mercury rises to 43.6 Deg C in Delhi

New Delhi, June 11 (UNI) Searing hot conditions continued to prevail in the capital for the second day today as the mercury rose to 43.6 degrees Celsius, the highest in more than a month.

It was scorchingly hot outdoors as the maximum temperature recorded was four degrees above normal, and indicative of a return to the heat wave in the capital after pleasant weather last weekend.

The high level of mercury, coupled with humidity level of 35 per cent, kept most of the residents indoors.

The heat wave reminded one of the severe hot conditions in the first week of May when the maximum temperature touched a five year high of 44.5 degrees C.

Weathermen say scorching hot conditions are likely to prevail in the coming days.

The weather office has forecast a mainly clear sky with dust or haze during the next 24 hours. They have also forecast a rise in maximum temperature of 44 degrees C tomorrow.

The mercury in the capital has been witnessing a rising trend since Monday, after three days of pleasant weather over the last weekend.

From nearly 30 degrees C over the weekend, mercury rose to 38.3 degrees C on Monday, and subsequently to 40 on Tuesday, 40.4 on Wednesday, 41.4 on Thursday, 42.8 yesterday and further to 43.4 degrees C yesterday.
