Israel kills Hamas militant in Gaza air strike

GAZA, June 11: An Israeli air strike killed a militant from the Hamas Islamic group and wounded four others in Gaza today after they fired rockets at the Jewish state, Palestinian security sources said.

The Israeli military said it launched the strike.

Hamas on Friday formally ended a 16-month truce with Israel by firing two dozen rockets and mortar bombs at Israel in response to the killing of seven people on a Gaza beach during Israeli shelling.

The killing of the Hamas militant was the first by Israel since the Islamists scrapped the truce.
