Fatehabad, June 11 (UNI) If electricity consumers could shun traditional electric bulbs and tubes and adopt compact florescent tubes instead and also stop inadvertent wastage of electricity, over 900 MW power could be saved in Haryana.

The gap between demand and supply of electricity in the state is between 500 MW to 600 MW.

According to a study by the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) if the consumers could avoid inadvertent wastage of power, the Nigam would not only be in a position to supply uninterrupted power to domestic and industrial consumers, it would also be in a position to supply power to agricultural consumers as per their requirement.

The study found that the 40 lakh power consumers of the DHBVN have about 1.6 crore electric bulbs and tubes. A compact florescent bulb of 22 Watts can produce light equal to a 100 Watts bulb.

The study says, over 800 MW load could be reduced by switching over to compact florescent tubes alone. Stopping the use of decorative lights could save an additional 200 MW of electricity.

According to the study, the demand of electricity is increasing at an unprecedented pace in Haryana. It is increasing by 12 to 15 per cent per annum in the state.

By using the compact florescent tubes, the additional demand for the next 18 months could be met without installation of additional generation plants, it says.
