Chandigarh, June 11 (UNI) In order to promote eco-friendly agriculture, the Haryana Government has decided to allow the sale of bio products of only those companies which have got their products cleared by the Haryana Agricultural University (HAU), Hisar and obtained the necessary clearance certificate.

Director Agriculture Rajesh Khullar today said that earlier there was no restriction on the manufacture, stocking and sale of bio fertilisers and organic fertilisers in the state. However, 31 companies were permitted to sell bio-products other than bio-fertilisers and organic fertilisers on the basis of test reports from government approved labs.

He said that to streamline the entire process of granting permission to only competent and efficien companies producing quality products, the government had constituted a committee under the chairpersonship of Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary, Agriculture to review the earlier decision. On the recommendations of the committee, it was decided that companies who were given sale permission of their bio-products in the state would have to get their products tested at HAU, along with bio-efficacy of the product, he added.

He said that as advised by the committee the sale permission of 16 companies which failed to get the bio-efficacy of their product tested from the University had been withdrawn with immediate effect.

Mr Khullar further informed that manufacturing, stocking and sale of biofertilisers and organic fertilisers would now be regulated as per provisions of Fertiliser (Control) Order, 1985 and the violation of the Order would be punishable under Essential Commodities Act, 1955.

Mr Kumar said that so far only nine companies had approached the University for getting their products tested and had also deposited the prescribed fee. These companies had been granted sale permission.

He said that four companies had approached the University but had not deposited the fees. These companies had been advised to deposit the fees or otherwise sale permission granted to them would also be withdrawn, he added.

He said that the sale permission of 16 companies had been withdrawn as these companies had not approached the University to get their products tested.
