Asom experience fourth night of bombing

Guwahati, June 11 (UNI) The Mayhem of bombing continued for the fourth consecutive night in Asom as already reports of two more explosions came in after sunset.

The latest report of explosion came in from Makum in Dibrugarh district where a police vehicle was attacked when a hand grenade was thrown on it. In the incident, one civilian died and two other CRPF Jawans received serious injuries.

An unconfirmed report saiod there was an explosion in Lakhimpur also, in North Bank also but the details are yet to be known.

A stunned Asom Government today convened an Unified Command meeting involving army and para military forces. The meet was presided over by Chief Secretary S Kabilan, which havled the Asom Police for not preventing such attacks despite having feedbacks.

The meeting also resolved that there were not adequate para military forces. It also decided to increase joint patrolling and resolved to reorganise their existing para military forces replying them with prioritising situation.

Meanwhile, a catastrophe was avoided at the last moment as the security forces today recovered two bombs from two ONGC crude wells this afternoon near Sibsagar.

The police source said that they were tipped off by local villagers and the bomb squad immediately defused the bomb. One was programmed at 1600 hours and another was programmed to explode at 2200 hours.

Had the bombs gne off, both the wells would have caught fire and it would be impossible to douse by the available fire fighting arrangements.

Meanwhile, the state is silently praying for halt of bombing by the ULFA but there is no let down even on the fourth day.

This morning there was blast at a railway track near Sonari.

The Kamrup Express had a miraculous escape when a powerful remote control bomb went off minutes after the passenger train crossed between Barahat and Sapekhati sections in Asom today.

The explosion took place at 0535 hours, just eight minutes after the Tinsukia bound Kamrup express crossed the sections, Northeast Frontier Railway sources confirmed.

At least one metre of track was blown off under the impact of blast, enough to cause a major derailment, they added. The blast forced the NFR to suspend traffic for almost ten hours. Traffic resumed at 1500 hours.
