AP Governor inagurates 'Red Ribbon Clubs'

Hyderabad, Jun 11 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Governor Rameshwar Thakur today inagurated 'Red Ribbon Clubs' to be formed in the schools and colleges to instill the values of service, development of healthy life-styles, moralistic behaviour and become safe and regular voluntary blood donors.

Speaking on the occasion, He said the clubs in every school and colleges would educate the youth about HIV and AIDS and promote them as voluntary blood donors, an information campaign drawn up by the AIDS Control Society and the Indian Red Cross Society.

Stating that there was a visible shortage of number of units of safe blood available to the needy when the need was for eight lakh units in the state, he said voluntary blood donation has a twin objective of increasing access to safe and adequate quality of blood as well as check the spread of HIV infection.

University Vice Chancellors and Officials concerned were also present in the programme.
